Default Tank Leak Check, Different method and Lessons Learned

Forgive me if this method has already been hashed through. I've read a lot of other threads by those attempting tank leak checks. I couldn't stand the idea of finding a leak I couldn't easily fix. My method was:

Prior to installing the back plate, the tank was filled with MoGas. For less than $30, florescent dye (link 1 below), UV light (link 2), and time were used to find any leaks prior to back plate installation. It is very sensitive (link 3). The fuel remains usable and will go into the car. The good news = no leaks. The bad = lesson learned. Don't fill to the very top. The fuel expanded and wicked up the skin and through the BP rivets holes; almost $%#@! myself before I realized what had happened. Anyway, (possibly) another method regarding method to add to the debate. Best of luck.
