They're mundane and they have no personality and perhaps that's why i never thought much of the life and times of your typical.... washer.

But I was attaching the seat ribs to the 704 bulkhead today and I realized: I don't know whether the washer goes under the nut, or the washer goes under the bolthead.

So I sent a note to Van's, who replied:

"The washer goes under whichever end will be rotated as you tighten
the assembly. Usually this is the nut, but you may find it easier to
turn the head of the bolt, inwhich case put the washer under that."

You know, I never knew that before.

And please don't posts any "hey moron, maybe you'd like to read your Standard Aircraft.... book sometime."

Another trick that I learned not too long ago is that the rounded side of the washer goes toward the aluminium, so that it does not gouge it.
