Default fuel system

i have a fuel tank that is flat on top and roughly parallel to the belly of the plane. i have been reading posts about fuel systems for years and vans recommends a siphon break and so many kind of give it a knowing wink and say ''yea, gotta have a siphon break.''
my vents are on the top of my tank and extend into the tank zero. am i missing something or why on earth will a siphon break serve any purpose on my plane ?
right behind the pilot side is another ''vent '' on top of the tank that is a normally closed petcock. might as well put a petcock in the extra bung as plug it.
