Standard practice when using pad type scales is to roll the vehicle onto the pads, side loading will cause errors if the vehicle is jacked and lowered onto the pads.

Another way if not rolling up on the scales as mentioned above, use heavy duty plastic trash bags, leave folded up multi layers and place on the scales, the tires will slide on the plastic releasing any side load.
