Default IO-390 purchase options

Was looking for some input on buying an IO-390 for the RV-14A. Everything I have seen so far is the choice between a standard new IO-390 and a thunderbolt version. I was hoping some of you could share some other possible options in regards to who may sell other than brand new engines from the factory (used cores, rebuilt engines, etc). I have run across a few other posts in regards to buying from custom engine shops, but want to make sure I explore all the options available to me before making a decision.

I am settled on a Lycoming IO-390, but looking for things like where to buy a used one. Could other shops do the thunderbolt type customization if I bought a factory new. What other options are generally available. Thanks for the input.
