Default Posting Images with "Picasa" (How to ????????)

Anybody EVER get this to work? I mean posting images that are stored in "Picasa Web Albums"?

I have read the "instructions" many times and have tried variations on the theme 10 times over, to NO AVAIL!

Either I am missing something, the notes don't apply to "Picasa" or it just does not WORK with "Picasa".

Last time I gave up and sent the pix to Doug directly but that is NOT the way to do it!

HELP!!!!

James, frustrated

Hi James,
Try to use this: http://www.imageshack.us/

It is very easy to use. I know nothing about "Picasa" but the imageshack works very well if you have pictures on your computer that you can copy and paste into a thread. The VAF site has a link which Doug has instructions on how to post pictures into a thread. Sorry for your frustrations. Is there any way that you can take the pictures from the Picasa Album and save them to your computer and try the copy and paste on http://www.imageshack.us/ Just a thought. Good luck and I'm sure you will get many responses to help you with this. AJ

I am a Picasa user too. I can download pictures from it, copy it, etc. However, when I place the picture hyperlink between [IMG] [/IMG] only the hyperlink shows. I ended using pictures on googlepages for this purpose. By the way, Yahoo Photos does not work neither.

Thanks Alan,

The problem is that I have many albums under Picasa and I use Picasa on the desktop as well. So changing would be problematic.

By the way, I saw your recent posts ... seems like a "keeper"![img]images/icons/icon7.gif[/img]

Default Got it

After some playing around I was able to get it to work. It appears that google is blocking folks from linking to large images on their site from third-party sites. They do, however allow you to link to thumbnails. You can easily do a thumbnail post similar to what folks are doing with ImageShack (which I'm not a big fan of, BTW...crappy small images...pop-up ads that circumvent pop-up blockers, slow, etc).

This is how to do it:

You have to click on "Link to this photo". Copy the "HTML to embed in website" link. You then have to modify the link to look like this:

PHP Code:
[url=http://picasaweb.google.com/painterjd/Oshkosh2006/photo#5051539112561840338][IMG]http://lh3.google.com/image/painterjd/RhqsDwU9kNI/AAAAAAAAALk/0PpiaLU5d7A/s144/DSC05082.JPG[/IMG][/url]
..nevermind that it says "php code"...that was the only way I could get it to post the mark-up. If you look at what Google gives you verses what I posted above you'll see that it's a trivial change. Maybe one day google will provide support or vbulletin (the VAF forums software) will support html.

This isn't really a shortcoming of Google...it's a problem with vbulletin not supporting html.

Hope that helps,
Jamie

BTW: Google provides an API for interfacing with the Picasa web albums...it probably wouldn't be too difficult to whip out a web-based utility that will spit out the forum mark-up and make it easy.

Ok, I made a mistake. You can post large images from Picasa web photos.

Just click on the 'link to this photo'. Select the size of image you want. Above is the "Medium 400px selection" which seems about right for the forums. You can go larger too.

You'll get something like this:
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/painterjd/Oshkosh2006/photo#5051544811983443522"><img src="http://lh6.google.com/image/painterjd/RhqxPgU9lkI/AAAAAAAAAWc/H44z8rSaa_s/s400/DSC05176.JPG" /></a>

Copy the area I've put in bold here:
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/painterjd/Oshkosh2006/photo#5051544811983443522"><img src="http://lh6.google.com/image/painterj...0/DSC05176.JPG" /></a>

Then click on the 'insert image' icon in the forums and then paste the copied text. That's all there is to it.
