Default I swear the RV4 was going straight up

C172 parked on the end of 29 broadcasting coyotes on the runway as I was coming onto base for final. then RV4 broadcast he's taking off on 11. I mention we are on a collision course unless he get's with it. the next thing I see is an RV4 that appears to be going straight up. yes, it was cold but WOW. I mentioned that was getting with it on the radio. the response was " yeah ". I see the coyotes running parallel to 29 as I touch down. As I taxi to hangar the C172 is still broadcasting coyotes next to the runway. good on him and thanks. Life is as is should be.

Nothing else to report.

Could it be that your forward (ground) speed was close to his - making it appear, relative to you, that he was raising "vertical"???
