Default RV-6 Tube to be built in Fuselage

Hi,

I am considering having a tube built into my RV6 so that I can transport skis/snowboard. Does anyone know if this can be easily done within the limitations of the aircraft to fly safely? Tube would be about 5 feet long and 2 snowboards would weigh about 25 lbs. Someone told me it may be too dangerous because the CG would be too adversely effected.

Thanks
Steve

There was a writeup on the site a few years back that might help you out. It's at http://www.vansairforce.net/BuilderM...nt_skirack.htm and here is a pic from the article. As for the C/G I would say 'it depends'. If you had the pax seat out and all the heavy gear resting where the pax would be and the baggage area was essentially empty.....might work. You'd have to do the W/B, of course, to see.

I also think Darwin Barrie built a similar rack in his RV-7 to transport humungous RC planes.
