RV7 return oil hose routing with SW8432R
Hi all.
I have a new -8 engine to cooler return hose that is 21.5" flare to flare from Tom at TS Flightline. My first attempt was a touch short. You can see here that I am stretching the hose straight and it's not bending at the fitting to my liking. It was way to tight with to much stress at the fitting.
Tom was great in helping me out with another hose (THANK YOU TOM). It fits and it is 1.5" longer than the previous hose with 45's on both ends and now routes behind/under the fuel pressure line.
I have clearance in all areas. 3/4" is the closest and that's between the fuel pressure and oil hoses. I understand I should not clamp this -8 hose to either the motor mount or the fuel pressure line to allow movement with no interference.
So my questions are 1) Can I leave it this as is for hose movement without support? 2) If not, then what is the allowable unsupported hose length and where to clamp it at?
I've looked all over the interwebs and VAF but no clear pictures or discription of this installation has shown themselves to me.

Hi Carlos, support in the center of the hose is best. Usually 10-12 inches of run. In your case there isnt a place to attach an adel clamp without making an elaborate bracket. The hose, cooler and engine fittings are pretty robust, so you should be fine. Might look at the cross brace on the ending mount between the gear mounts. Might be a good spot for 2 adel clamps.

CORRECT! "I understand I should NOT clamp this -8 hose to either the motor mount or the fuel pressure line to allow movement with no interference."

Steve--what I meant was not clamping it directly on the mount, but using 2 adels and possibly a bridge between the 2 as a support hanger. NOT tie wrapping the hose to the mount.

yes, and that would be OK if the hanger support was from the engine. however, I would be inclined to leave it as is and inspect it for any contact after 10 hrs or so. if no contact, then put it on you annual inspection list.

Thats a good idea too. The length of the hose is 22.5 inches, so even though its long, its a straight routing. Possibly there is somewhere Carlos can affix a bracket.
