There's a few places we didn't use the stock routing guidelines, the control stick area was one of them.
The biggest things (in my humble opinion):
* Be sure there are no opportunities for chafing or snagging on a moving part
* The wires are secure but loose and not taut as the airframe will move and bend
* Adequate connectors (i.e., water resistant if necessary in that area)
* Service loops
Beyond that just route the wires where it makes sense to your build keeping in mind you may need to service it later.
By the way, I believe that SteinAir makes those harnesses for Vans.
