Engine Oil Temp debug please.

My Vans temp gauge stop reporting oil temp this weekend. Can anyone tell me what I can do to diagnose the problem. I imagine it is a pretty simple problem.

Remove the sending unit, drop it in some hot oil or water and see what it says. You may need to provide a ground to the sensor to the engine while testing.
