Default Manual Trim Cable & HS Rear Spar? (RV7)

I finally ran the manual elevator trim cable and have it fed all the way back through the fuselage and the HS. The end and threaded part are through the 7/16" hole in the HS rear spar however forward of the treads, the metal part flairs out a bit and will not fit through the hole. It looks like in the plans that the cable needs to move further than this to reach the correct position in the elevator. Anyone have this problem? Did you open up the hole a bit (the two doublers are on either side of the hole)?

Thanks
