Default Registration renewal period

I thought our registrations had to be renewed every 3 years. That's what the FAA website also says. My registration slip, which was issued 03/2015, shows a 03/2021 expiration, not the 03/2018 I expected. What am I missing?

Go to the FAA website and check your A/C records.

Thanks, I did all that before posting. My question relates to the "Aircraft registration expires three years after an aircraft was registered or last renewed" information on the FAA website. I guess that's not accurate? Mine apparently expires 6 years after it was registered not 3.

As you know, this business of periodic renewals is new. I *think* there was a phase-in period of 6 years so the FAA could catch up. (??) e.g., my first registration was 2011, then 2017, next due in 2020. So maybe you got in early enough to get the 6 years.
