Default What kind of Antenna is this?

I found this in the dark recesses of the hangar I rent. Is this a vhf antenna that I could install at my house to listen to airtraffic on my handheld ICom?

The picture is of one antenna on the pole, there are several up & down the pole connected in series... if it is a vhf antenna, could I use just one?

I doubt that they are actually in series.

FWIW, you can make a serviceable VHF antenna for a ground station using almost anything that you possess that's made of metal, plus a BNC connector. Lots of Kitplanes articles over the years on making them.

I'm going to take a wild, slightly educated guess here.

If you found it in a hangar, and there are several interconnected assemblies like that on a pole, I'm going to guess it's a collinear VHF antenna, probably tuned in the VHF air band. It won't hurt to try using it as-is for receiving; I wouldn't want to use it for transmitting without some additional knowledge or putting it on an antenna analyzer.
