Question Trim servo position indicator "lag"

I'm curious if other people have seen a "lag" in the position output of a Ray Allen trim servo when reversing direction.

On the one I was looking at, the position output stays constant for 2-3 seconds after going from forward to reverse or vice versa. The effect is the same as one might expect if there was some internal slack in the indicator mechanism.

Thanks!

Default

Two things likely at play here - one is that the servo position sensor itself has some mechanical lag internal to the device (slop in the mechanism) before it starts reversing; the other would be that the displaying device (you didn't say if it was Ray Allen or EFIS) might have a "smoothing" algorithm that takes a few seconds to bring the display to the new value to avoid jittery data.

Question

I'm using an old style Ray Allen analog meter indicator and the response is pretty much instantaneous.

As airguy asks - are you using a digital display of some kind to show position?
