Default Fuel pump clicking

I'm working on my electrical system and did the first test today. When I turned on the fuel pump it made a clicking noise. It sounded similar to the noise that a car with a dead battery makes when the starter clicks rapidly. It is the stock pump from vans for a carburetor.

Is this normal or do I have a bad fuel pump?

The Facet boost pump is basically a solenoid driving a piston with a couple of check valves. It will click rapidly until it primes, and the clicking will slow as the downstream fuel line fills, the float bowl fills, and eventually the clicking will stop once pressure builds to the pump's design pressure.

edit: don't continue to run it dry; it needs fuel to cool the coil.

Yep rapid clicking until it actually draws fuel then the clicking volume goes down.
