Default DOT OSA

Wonder if this rule change will affect the FAA (part of DOT, after all) rules on testing for OSA during the (hopefully in my case never used again) 3rd class medical?

Remember when the whole OSA thing came up a couple of years ago?

I had sleep apnea and it was treated surgically with good result, although I don't think they do the UPPP (surgical procedure) much any more. IIRC, some significant portion of the population, like 10%, has sleep apnea to a significant degree. (The actual event is called an hypopnea, an interruption to deep sleep, and everybody has them. Sleep apnea is having too many of them.)

Yes, the FAA's past approach to sleep apnea was clumsy and heavy handed, but yes, there is considerable justification for such tests. And I was not a high body mass index individual when I was diagnosed.

It's been awhile, and I'm just going on memory, not on recent research, but you get the idea...
