Default Airflow Performance FM200A

Do you have to modify the cowling on RV8 to use?

Some have squeezed it in by building a modified snorkle from the left inlet. Others modify the cowl for a horizontal intake. The easy option is an FM150 or EX-5, same length, both shorter than an FM200

Yes. I'm doing it now, probably have 100 hours in it, mainly because I have no idea what I'm doing, and I'm quite slow. I'd recommend what Dan said - buy the FM150.

This picture should give you an idea of what needs to be done. Click on it for more terrifying photos.

I recently visited Barret and Ronda suggested i research the mod but she recommend the fm150 also and If Mickey has a 100 hrs in it I am sure I would have the same amount if not more. The 150 it is.

Jeff, there are some photo links here:

The Vans snorkel can be adapted to the FM 200 without modifying the cowl. It's just glass work. Keep in mind that sometimes it's necessary to modify the snorkel a bit regardless of throttle body choice. It's the nature of the beast.

On the flow bench there is probably 0.3"~0.4" Hg difference in restriction between the FM-150 and the FM-200 at a 4-cyl's flow rate, but the difference may be less installed on the airplane, sucking through filters, ducts, and manifold adapters. I don't have those measurements. Max power is an intake straight in through the front, no filter.

I run a through-the-front filtered airbox with a huge filter, so pressure loss is minimal: http://www.vansairforce.com/communit...t=44856&page=2

Talk to Don or Kyle at Airflow.
