Default RV-7A nosewheel axle extention

I need to be able to tow my 7A a short distance this Winter. I have extended the nose-wheel axle bolt previously to facilitate use of my hand towbar, but the towbar only covers the bolt by about 5/8 of an inch each side. That works find for hand towing, but I want more "purchase" if towing with a vehicle. I didn't want it to come loose and damage my nose wheel pant.

I am considering just getting yet a longer bolt and more washers. Anyone have a better suggestion?

LL

I towed my 9a to the other side of the airport once with a universal-type towbar the shop loaned me that is tightened down onto the bolt (the other end drops onto your town hitch). When tightened down it was very secure. You could always remove the wheel pant for ease of mind as well.

Might not help for your need though.

Why not leave the wheel pant off for the trip? It takes only 5 minutes to remove.
