Default Colorado Fall

The weather was great this weekend in Colorado, with almost no turbulence. A perfect day to visit Eagle Colorado.

It is a fairly short flight from KFLY to KEGE, however there are some mountains to deal with. We went the easy way; first to Leadville, then over Tennessee pass, to Avon, and down the valley to Eagle. For the reverse flight, we came back via Weston pass, see below.

Eagle is a very posh mountain airport that serves the Vail Valley area. We were parked on the ramp next to a plane that I bet took on more fuel than the 8 gallons we bought for the 6a.

I am slowly trying to fly to all the paved airports in Colorado. We have landed at airports large and small, some with crew cars, some without. Eagle has to have the nicest crew car we have been offered yet.

After a great breakfast bagel at the Red Canyon Cafe we came back to airport and started home. On the way back we got a fairly good shot of Leadville Lake County airport (KLXV).

My buddy Mike had never been over Weston pass, and since the weather was good we added that to the return trip.

Mike normally flies a rental Cessna, so he got to fly the pass. This resulted in the typical RV grin (Mike on the left).

Weston is fairly high, you basically fly right at a mountain that is almost 14,000 feet tall, and take an abrupt right. As soon as you turn right, you can see out into the valley.

The views are really spectacular.

As we made our way back, we flew down Ute pass, and over Colorado Springs airspace. Here is a snap of the Air Force Academy field. The astro turf runway (toward top of photo) is where they land the gliders.

What a great day. We are so luck to have these wonderful planes.

All the best
