Default Garmin GDL-39 and Battery Question

Team,

I have a Garmin GDL39 that I run off the ships power.
I just purchased the Garmin battery for the unit.

Does anyone know if the battery will be charging while I am running off ships power, or can I only charge the battery with the AC adapter that came with it?

thanks and sorry If this has been posted before.
I did a search and came up empty....

Yes, it charges while running on ships power.

I probably need to get in the habit of turning it off when I land. it comes right up when the power goes on, and I sometimes turn on the BT is anyone is playing with a tablet in the other seat.

When I land I usually forget about it and it stays on until battery drains. Probably defeats my purpose for the backup battery.
