What is with the display mode VAF

I have tried setting to linear mode, but it does not seam to be remembered.
I am always in hybread mode and find it very hard to get to the latest posting if there are more then one page.

I like the old way with the page numbers and the '>' link on the bottom of the page.

How do I get back to that way?
