Default Verifying Avionics

I'm looking at a Garmin 650 and the seller has provided me with the serial number. How can I verify it's legit and not a fake? The funds will be held in an escrow account until I'm I receive it. Can I contact Garmin, maybe the G3Experts?

Call the certified aviation support group at Garmin. They can tell you if it was reported stolen and what dealer it was originally sold to and any history on the unit....

Also ask the seller for the tail number of the aircraft it was removed from, the reason, and the shop that pulled it.

Usually if those answers check out they are on the up and up.

That's what I did for an eBay 430W purchase a few years ago. They were happy to help.

Turned out to be a scam. Thanks for all the quick replies.
