Crankcase Vacuum Valves
Has anybody installed one of these crankcase vacuum valves in an O-360 engine to help keep the airplane belly clear of oil? Good, bad or indifferent?

Search for "Anti Splat breather". There are lots of posts with important information on carbon buildup where it discharges into the exhaust.

This part would be a better option as it allows you to remove and inspect for build-ups.

Galin,
We've discussed them in great detail here, in multiple threads. There have been separate cautionary and technical articles in Kitplanes.
Try the search words "vacuum", "evacuator", "reed", and "NAPA 2-29000"
This one thread alone has about 300 posts:

A good case evacuator is beneficial. However, the exhaust tap has a cleaning requirement. Failure to keep it clean/open/clear will result in several serious problems, including blown oil seals and forced landings.
A second reed valve can be added to the system, eliminating any chance of positive crankcase pressure.
I am frankly disgusted to see Aircraft Spruce list this AntiSplat product without reference to the maintenance requirement, or the second reed valve, which AntiSplat sells as an additional kit.

....We include with all systems, the secondary bypass assembly, as well as very specific maintenance instructions. The weld in tube and valve is being offered as replacement parts for existing installations, and is shipped only by us with confirmation of the install and use. Hope this helps, Allan..
