We often get questions as to why an aircraft owner would need passenger liability coverage on their policy when they ONLY fly with a spouse. Some pilots would even like to exclude the passenger coverage all together. There are several reasons to avoid doing this, but the most important one is to protect your family.

Let?s say you are flying with your spouse and you are involved in an accident. If your spouse is seriously injured, the passenger liability coverage is available to help pay for the medical bills. You want to take your children up for a spin instead of your spouse? Great! Know that you have coverage in case something were to happen. What about a friend or another family member? Passenger liability coverage is the way to go. But remember, after the per passenger limit is exhausted, a pilot?s estate or personal assets may be at risk. Based on your level of flying experience, higher limits of liability coverage may be offered and we always recommend you take the highest liability limit available to you.
