How long can an engine lay dormant that has been factory "Pickled"?

I would ask the company that built and pickled the engine. But probably between 6 months and two years depending on how it was preserved.
I once had a surplus O-470 that was covered in cosmoline n in a can under 2psi of nitrogen that was close to thirty years old when we installed it. It was in new condition

Desiccant is only good for so long so the method of pickling, as Brad suggested, is what matters.
