Throttle/Mixture Cable Location?

I notice that the drawing for the firewall penatration locations for the throttle/mixture cables are different for Carb and FI. Is the FI location only for the horizontal induction engines? I will be going with vertical induction so does the cable locations matter if FI or carb?
