Thumbs up Eagle's Nest Projects - Young Eagles Yearbook features Austin Malcomb

Austin Malcomb - Eagle's Nest Projects student-builder (EN-1 & EN-2) Jennings County HS, N Vernon, IN

______________________________
From a pool nearing 2,000,000 Young Eagles and Air Academy alumni, EAA selected Austin Malcomb and seventeen others to appear in their 2015 Young Eagles Yearbook. Eagle's Nest Projects is extremely proud of Austin's accomplishments and we're pleased (busting at the seams) that in some small way our high school build program provided Austin inspiration and empowerment to reach his life goals.

Text re-print
As the third-generation pilot in his family, Austin Malcomb, EAA 1044354, of North Vernon, Indiana always had plenty of opportunities to fly, but now he?s making sure other youth get that chance to take to the skies through EAA Chapter 1328?s Young Eagles program.

Austin, 18, said he had been flying many times before he took his December 2009 Young Eagles Flight. He knows many kids aren?t that lucky, and that is why he volunteers for the program. He has given about 15 flights so far.

?I haven?t had anyone yet who hasn?t liked the flight?, he said. ?It really is a lot of fun to take someone on their first ride. It?s always been meaningful to me to see someone else affected by aviation.?

A Chapter 1328 board member, Austin said his interest in aviation really started soaring at about second grade. He soloed on his 16th birthday, January 4, 2013, in an RV-12 called Eagle?s Nest One that he helped build through Eagle?s Nest Projects, a program in which students begin and complete aircraft building projects in high school classrooms.

Then on his 17th birthday, Austin passed his checkride, becoming a private pilot in the same airplane that his family now owns.

In November 2014, he also received his private seaplane rating, and this summer, Austin is working toward his commercial seaplane rating at Mac?s Seaplane Service, where he also works as an intern. In addition, he plans to earn his tailwheel endorsement, commercial single-engine sea, and multiengine ratings this summer.

He graduated in May 2015 from Jennings County Hish School and will attand a junior campus of Purdue University before transferring to West Lafayette campus in the future. He will also work on his airline transport pilot certificate.

?I just want to get paid to fly? he said. ?I?m open to anything.?

Bob,

If you liked Austin's t-shirt... check out what Matthew Malcomb, Austin's cousin in Florida, was wearing on HIS 16th birthday.

Ernie,

Your vision has really taken hold! Congratulations to you for building dreams and young adults, not just airplanes!

Great to see these kids really learning and growing in aviation. An amazing group of people mentoring these youths. Thank you Eagles nest for all that you do.
