Default CHT screw-in probes vs bayonet

I'm hoping for a little clarification on the following.

Van's has listed in their parts and accessories catalog; Screw-in CHT probes, Bayonet CHT probes and the Bayonet adapters (Mounts in Cylinder, Accepts CHT Probe).

My first question is what is the difference between "Screw-in" and "Bayonet"?

What are the adapters needed for if I know I have the threaded openings in my cylinders?

I sure wish they had pictures and/or better explanations.

Thanks

Well, for pictures let Google be your guide. I just search on bayonet and screw-in CHT probes, clicked on the pictures link and got lots and lots of pictures. On a casual glance, I'm not sure I see the difference, but the pics are there in abundance.

Bayonets are spring loaded with two ears like a camloc. The adapter is needed to hook into. Don't do it unless you're getting a Tanis heat system. Don't do that either.

Default Cylinder heat

Why not Tanis? We had good service from their units on two airplanes. I used Reiff on my -8 and it seems fine. Temp probe recesses are available for temp sensing on all cylinders with the Reiff, using base of cylinder ring heaters.
