Default Adding/changing stripes

I have a nice -9A, all white with a narrow straight stripe down the middle of the fuselage. I want to change that stripe and add color to the top half of the plane in a "wave" shape. This will entail adding the color to the horizontal stabilizers and rudder. How do I keep the balance in these control surfaces? Since the paint is only 4 years old and in very good condition, I only plan on sanding the areas I plan to over spray with color rather than repaint the entire plane. I have an experienced painter helping me but his experience is in painting cars and boats.

yep. If it were just a stripe then likely a good way to go but I want to add color to the top half of the plane and would rather paint.
