Default Sealant for Rear Window

I will be installing the rear canopy section on my 6A Tip-up soon. I want to get some sealant between the plexi and the skin. I know that RTV is safe, but I want to avoid getting silicone on the skin, as it is a disaster for paint adhesion and almost impossible to remove the residue completely.

My concern is that it seems many chemicals cause crazing of the plexi. Wondering what others have used successfully here.

Thanks,

Larry

Default I used RTV.....

...and mask off the outside skin surface so that you don't get RTV on it.

I also masked off and painted matt black the overlap area on the plexi - a bit like they do on modern car glass - so that the RTV wouldn't show on the inside.

Once riveted in place simply remove the masking from the plexi and outer skin for a neat and weather proof installation. I also used aluminum pop rivet washers instead of the plans backing strips which I also think look neater.

Smile

I'm planning on a thin strip of foam rubber identical to that used on the Duckworks lights Plexiglas.
