Modying aircraft in FS2004?

Does anybody know how to modify an RV-7A model for FS2004, to increase the wingspan and make it appear more like an RV-9A?
Would the paint files have to be modified as well? How would this be done? (my experience is limited to modifying an existing paint scheme from photoshop files that were provided with the RV-7A model I have).
