Lightspeed Igintion Wiring Question
I am helping someone wire up a new plane and he has dual Lightspeed ignitions. The manual doesn't have a single, overall wiring diagram, so I have a quick question - is the power input to the box essentially the ignition switch? In other words, do I need a power switch AND an ignition switch, or just a single switch? Not going to use a key switch, just toggles.

Single Switch
I have a Plasma II+ and just use a single locking toggle on the power input. (It does go through a 5A circuit breaker as well).

Both
Paul, you run power directly from the battery to an appropriately-sized breaker (5 amp for 4 cylinder and 7.5 amp for 6 cylinder) and then to the Box. You also run a switch (I use the right mag function on the key switch) and it will operate normally when you are doing mag checks or want to turn it off.

There are 2 ways to wire the LSE boxes:
1) simple switched power input (fed through a CB)
2) power input through a CB and use the "keyswitch option" which is another wire (pin 1 on the Output connector) which goes to a keyswitch just like a mag. Wiring this way emulates mag behavior with the keyswitch. While the box always has power (Klaus wants the power fed directly from the battery & unswitched), it does not draw any current unless the keyswitch enables the ignition.
Above is for both the Plasma II+ and Plasma III ignitions, see note 4 on the INPUT connector document below.

Some aircraft have a long wire run (a rear battery -8, for example) between the main battery and the panel or EI box. If you're uncomfortable with running 10~14 feet of un-fused power lead through structure and past moving parts, installing a fusible link at the battery terminal may be a happy choice. With a fusible link at the battery, I'd eliminate the circuit breaker, go direct to the EI box, and run the switch lead for run-up checks.
