Yes. The North Carolina 2015 Formation Clinic will be held June 26-28 at Stanly County Airport (KVUJ). I will announce sign-up information in mid-May on this forum.

Smokey,

For schedule planning purposes, can you give us a brief overview of what the 3 days look like, what the requirements are for participation, and whether any particular certificate or card can be earned here..?

Here's the official intro to the clinic (edited):

"Participating pilots should have excellent stick and rudder skills. This clinic is only for RV aircraft. Sorry, no RV-10?s, however we may consider including RV-12?s if at least four RV-12 pilots sign up. We will not mix RV-12?s with other models. All aircraft must be in excellent condition. Beginner's aircraft must have dual controls (throttle, stick and rudder), intercom, and PTT in both positions. No vernier throttles allowed! In addition to the normal paperwork required of all aircraft (registration, airworthiness certificate, weight & balance), pilot certificate and current medical, you will need to bring proof of liability insurance. We will arrange for competitive rates at a hotel in nearby Albemarle, NC. We will provide dinner on Friday evening, and lunch on Saturday. Further detailed information will provided as it is available.

Those with prior formation experience will be challenged at a level commensurate with your level of experience. Experienced pilots who wish to take a check ride to earn an FFI Wingman or Flight Lead card must secure a recommendation for the check ride prior to the clinic and request a check ride in advance.

Regardless of your level of formation expertise, you will find the clinic to be a challenging, rewarding and fun experience."

Arlen,
The clinic gets underway on Friday afternoon. Ground school on Friday evening for all non-FFI carded pilots. Saturday is all flying; at least 4 flights. Beginners will get a "dollar" ride as passenger in a formation flight. Next is a flight in your airplane with an instructor on board. You may get more than one such ride until cleared solo. Solo rides will progress from two-ship to 4-ship flights. Sunday is all-up day with a mass formation flight for all pilots cleared solo, others as passengers. Flights home around noon on Sunday.

For the FFI carded wingmen we will have advanced briefings on selected subjects (flight lead training, air show flying, aerobatic competition, etc.)

Stay tuned to this forum for sign-up information coming in mid-May.

There is a yahoo group already going. It is not open to all levels. Tailwind is on this site often. I am sure he will see this and get back to you.

The information that I post is just that; information and my own personal experiences. You need to weight out the pros and cons and make up your own mind/decisions. The pictures posted may not show the final stage or configuration. Build at your own risk.
