Default Inspection access panel

Building a Mustang II and am clueless regarding screw type fasteners used to hold a 5 x 7 x .032" thick 2024T3 aluminum inspection panel in place. All information regarding size, location, rivet and screw fastener locations for the removable panel is detailed in the plans, but no information about the method of holding it in place with screws.

What exactly are you asking though? Without more information, it's about impossible to help. Perhaps a scanned picture of your plans in that specific area?

Sorry guys. Guess I didn't make my question clear enough.

I was trying to ask what method most builders would use if they were fastening a four inch by seven inch inspection access panel to the exterior skin of an experimental. Of course, the fact that my inspection panel is 4 x 7 is immaterial. The method for affixing/attaching a removable panel should be the same regardless of panel size. The only requirement is that the affixing method allow for repeated removal and re-attachment of the panel.

I have discovered the usual method for attachment is referred to as a plate nut, or nut plate or is sometimes called an anchor nut. The plate nut is a threaded nut with two small wings extending out from the nut. The wings have holes for bucked rivets. The rivets hold the plate nut in position on the aircraft surface.

Thanks for the reference to the inspection manual but at this point all I need is a few plate nuts.

Please find someone in your area building an RV and ask to visit. I'm sure there are a few. This would help a lot!
