Default How far did you take this "Kit" thing?

In talking with a neighbor about my RV, he asked about the engine and was surprised it came as a kit and that I assembled it myself. As the discussion he was also surprised to find out that I had assembled my headsets from a kit and that I also had on my shelf a voice activated intercom that I had made from a kit years ago.

How many "standard" things did you make and/or assembled for your plane?

Default A lot of kit built stuff in my RV

My RV made first flight 17-years ago.

It had several Kit built products inside it. Some are still being used and some have been replaced.

Rocky Mountain Instrument microMonitor (replaced few years ago with Dynon EMS D10)
Rocky Mountain Instrument microEncoder (still in use)
RST Intercom (still in use)
RST Marker Beacon Receiver (still in use with light to LED upgrade)

Have kit but never built and installed CO2 detector.

Default scratch built

Audio panel/intercom, trim control relay deck, panel light dimmer - all built from parts, no kits. Recommended only if this is for personal satisfaction; if you count your labor cost it's expensive!

Well, I'm not done with the plane yet, but I made a pitot tube for my RV-3B:

Scratch build LED nav lights per Pete Howell (and others). Cost maybe $100 and work fantastically.

Default Depends........

Took my son Josh flying for the first time this summer......RV grin.... took 22 years!

I'd have to say, he's easily the most enjoyable and successful 'kit' project I've ever 'assembled!' ( ok, my wife contributed just a bit also!) ..took only 9 months from start to finish.......

Very nice, David! I may buy the Van's pitot tube and dress it up like yours with airfoil-section tubing.

The streamline tubing is part of the system, not a fairing.

PM me if you need more info. The round tube opens into the streamline tube.
