Default Weather Change of Plans....

I was hoping the Severe weather that was forecast for tonight would be a no-show and I could fly to my EAA meeting. The first storm that popped up was south and went from nothing into a large mass moving east of me. I decided to head out to the hangar and double check the airplane for an upcoming trip, and make a go/no-go decision for tonight's flight at the hangar.
Before I took off I double checked the radar, I could just visually make out the CB's building 100 miles to the southwest. Even the 8 minute old radar update wasn't keeping up.

I decided since I've already got the plane out and it's good weather here I might as well get her up to temps and charge the battery. My 15 minute flight around the patch ended up in a few 4 point rolls and barrel rolls with a 500' AGL speed run, just what I needed after working on home remodeling projects the last 2 weeks! The clouds built fast and the sun sank even faster.

Pic right after I landed.

As I piddled around the hangar I tried to get a lightning pic of the RV, pretty hard with the Iphone.

I did stay too long at the hangar working on my towbar, I pulled the airplane inside by hand just before it started sprinkling. I ended up getting completely drenched in the 3 feet from the hangar to the truck in the pouring rain.

Thanks for taking us along and sharing.

The best way I've found to photograph lightning with an iPhone is to record segments with the video camera . From there I could pick what frame of the video I wanted to keep, getting some good lightning still frame photos.

Yea, I am hoping this system moves through quickly. I am suppose to be flying from Indy into GPH tomorrow afternoon. Gonna be a long drive otherwise.
