How to deal with gap between skin and tiedown bracket?

I'm borrowing this link from sportpilot, to show what I'm talking about:

From this angle it looks like I'm not the only one to have a gap. How have others dealt with it and the fact (in my case) that the hole is not centered exactly over the bracket?
A delrin or similar spacer? Glued or prosealed into place? Don't screw the ring in all the way?
Just another thing I have lots of time to stew over...
