Default Garmin X96

So, I am about to update my 496 GPS and XM weather in the cockpit and was wondering what the best option would be given the incredible speed of technology in the past 4-5 years. I like my 496 and just want to update to the latest technology to get Weather / Stereo and GPS in the cockpit. The cost per month is another factor I'd like to drop or decrease if possible.

I was thinking about a 796, but am aware that Garmin has had this unit out for about 2.5 years now. Is the 896 coming soon I wonder(?)

What about ditching the 496 and XM weather and installing an Ipad Mini or a Nexus 8 and running Garmin Pilot and not even buying the next x96? Could I install the CDL 39 where the XM weather antenna is now, under the cheek of my -4.

So what have you done / would you do today?
Thanks!
Ron

I'm a very big fan of a Foreflight and the Stratus. It's perfect on an iPad mini. If I had it to do over, I'd do the exact same thing.

Let me know when you off the 496. It's all I have room for and my 396 is getting tired...
