Default choice of alum. alloy

i want to make a few reinforcements, doublers, backing plates. angle is usually seen in 6061 and i plan to use 2024 for the plate alum. is there really significant difference in the 2 alloys to choose one over the other for reinforcing certain areas? i am thinking of 1/32 or 1/16'' stock

I assume you're talking about 6061 T6 and 2024 T3. I am sure you will get much more technical answers, but here's the short version. 6061 is softer and more pliable/bendable in its heat treated form T6. 2024 is stiffer/stronger but less pliable/bendable in its heat treated form T3. 6061 is weldable. 2024 is not.

6061 is also much more corrosion resistant. Hence why 2024 is usually alclad.
