Default Spring shroud tube Lycoming

I am replacing my valve cover gaskets with silicon gaskets. In the process I found the push rod Spring shroud tube, pt# LW-14995 either broken or flattened. I've ordered new springs and & Lock plate push rod shroud pt# LW-12272. Do I need a washer behind the spring?
