I realise this is an old thread but have checked the OP is still posting.

Can I ask where you go to get a noise test and roughly how much is it? I am based in the UK but am hoping to take the RV10 to Switzerland next week.

Thx

I've not done it myself but I believe the Swiss amateur build association (EAS) organises a noise testing "event" about twice a year. However, you don't need a noise certificate for a lot of airfields, they just charge you the fee for the highest noise band. It's probably a good idea to check with the airfield in advance.

Brian, I think you will find the major noise in the cockpit to be air noise. I externally insulated the firewall with 1/2" ceramic insulation then 1/8" ceramic insulation inside with 5/8" fiberglass insulation inside of that. Additionally insulation external from firewall aft about 2 ft the width of the engine cooling air outlet. All sides and floor is insulated inside. All pin holes sealed best as possible. Wing spar gaps sealed. Aileron pushrod boots. Doors seal tight. Cabin is tight enough you could burn a match at 180 knots and it would not blow out. Even with all this I wish it were quieter in the 3000khz frequency and higher. Low frequency noise is easier to stop.
