Default KT76A Problem

Today I was flying into class C airspace with transponder set 1200, with orange light blinking as normal. I was then assigned a code, and that was entered. I was informed by ATC that my transponder was not working. I then noticed that I was not seeing the orange light flash since code change. I then went back to 1200, and the orange light started blinking again, then went back to assigned code, and the orange light remained blinking for the next ten minutes, ATC informed me that my transponder was still not working.

In the hangar the ident button would not illuminate light, but the test position would.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

I checked all coax connections, and cleaned fuel off the small belly antenna.

Is there a newer model that uses the same tray and encoder for upgrade if needed?

Thanks,
Chad

Definately sounds like an internal transponder issue.

You may want to check out the Trig TT31 mode S transponder, it's a slide in replacement for the old KT76A.
