This Months Wallpaper

As I sit here at work between documents I'm admiring this months wonderful wallpaper on my screen. I notice the plane in the back looks to be a rocket, but I'm curious about the cowl. It looks so much more streamlined and pointed compared to the 8's in the foreground. Do you think this is a function of camera angle, or do the rockets do a better job of packing 10 pounds in a 5 pound can? It would seem a 540 would require a larger cowl, not a smaller one...
