Default RV-9A cowel?

Does Vans produce more than one type of cowel for the RV-9A? I think I was told that for customers using the lighter 118HP engine the engine is mounted farther out from the firewall for correct C of G... does this mean that the cowel they send you would depend on which engine you choose?

Default O-235 cowl is longer

That is correct, the mount and cowl are longer. When I purchased mine Van's indicated that it was a special order and not returnable.

What he said.

There is a full 12" from the firewall to the face of my engine mount and the cowling is longer than the O-320 cowling as well.

Default Cowl

They will also give you a -7 cowl if you think you might go with the slightly wider O-360 engine, but they will make you sign a form saying they don't recommend it. FYI.
