Default Step installation question

I am getting ready to mount the steps on my 9A fuselage, and am wondering about the exact orientation. I understand that I will need to bend the flanges for the best fit. I bought the steps secondhand and they had already been drilled - there is one rivet hole in the skin that lines up with the step holes that I have left open, I have not drilled any other skin holes yet.

The way it sits now, without adjustment, it appears that the step is angled forward relative to the airplane centerline. I am assuming I want it to be perpendicular to the centerline. This will require bending the rear part of the flange outward and the forward part inwards. Will probably also need to enlarge the hole on the inside rib that it passes through, Does this fit with what others have had to do? Any other hints?

Thanks!

Chris

Like usual, it was another job that was much easier once I just dove in and got to work. Left one is on and fits great, still fiddling with the right but coming along with trial and error. Thanks!
