Default Rebuilding an O-320..

Just a little back story.. Had a loss of power on a touch and go and wound up landing off-field and got the prop in the dirt, so we are having the engine completely torn down..

Just got an email from the engine shop..

Basically.. Our crankshaft & crankcase are REJECTS. Another thing, this engine has a data plate O-320-B3B on it, but apparently the crankcase is NOT correct (B3B is conical - but this had a dyna-focal 1 on it). They cannot build to O-320-B3B spec's with a dyna-focal 1 crankcase. They can build it as experimental engine without a data plate.

Does anyone have any suggestions, advice, etc?

Downsides to an experimental built engine?

Thanks guys..

Same as downsides to owning an experimental built airplane

Maybe just look for a good used O-320 with Dyna-1 mounts and swap the whole thing out. If the crankshaft plus the case halves are toast, you could end up sinking a lot of money into overhauling your old engine.

Yeh, it'd kinda starting to look like a different engine search is about to begin..
