Default Interface Settings With 430W Connected to GPSMap-696

Hi,

I'm going to wire up my 430W to my GPSMAP-696 with a switch so the 430W will feed flight plans to the 696. The wiring process has been well discussed in other posts. I'll have to change the interface serial data settings on the 696 to "Aviation In" in order for the 696 to recognize the data stream from the 430W. But then, after the flight plan is loaded, I'll have to switch the 696 interface back to "GTX TIS-A In/NMEA & VHF Out" in order for the 696 to display traffic from my Zaon XRX and send frequencies to my SL-40 Comm 2.

My question is: When I change interface settings on the 696, do I have to re-boot the 696 for the new setting to take effect? I called Garmin's tech support and the tech rep was pretty sure but not absolutely positive that I would not have to re-start the 696 for the new interface setting to take effect.

Even though I'm flying "Brand X", I thought I'd dip into this much deeper well of knowledge. I'm sure someone here knows the answer for certain.

Thanks in advance.

You do not have to restart it. I found this when I changed settings to add the gdl 39
