Default Where did you locate the overflow tube from engine driven fuel pump?

I am pondering where to route the overflow tube from the engine driven fuel pump on my IO-540. As I understand this, the purpose of the overflow is to have a place for the fuel to go if the diaphragm starts to leak.

Obviously it would be a bad idea to route it out the cowling exit - the exhaust could ignite the fuel while in flight and I would have a bad day! I was thinking of sending it down the gear leg inside the fairing, but would want to provide an exit before it reached the brake as a fire could start upon landing when using the brakes. Not as bad as a fire in flight, but I prefer no fire at all!

Where did you route your overflow tube from your engine driven fuel pump?

I just followed Van's firewall forward plans.

Plastic tubing tied on with safety wire, then down to the cowling hinge.

Drill a hole in the hinge and bend some aluminum tubing, then secure it to the engine mount.

Thanks Bruce. On a side by side you probably have the width to get enough lateral distance from the exhaust to put this through the bottom. Wonder if the -4 or -8 plans call for a similar placement - much closer to the exhaust - but maybe my concern is ill founded.

That's where it is on my -8, and I am pretty sure that is to plans.
