Default First annual on engine

I bought my engine from Mattituck a few years back. I've installed in on my airplane and ran it back in August/September, and I'm hoping to fly around mid may.

So here's the question.

Since the engine was manufactured a few years ago, do I need an annual on the engine before I can fly it?

If not, do I need to have it the annual done a year after I first ran it? A year after it first flies?

Maybe common knowledge, but I don't know......yet. Thank you VAFers.

Oh, and since I've been asking so many questions lately, I think I'll have to send Doug an increased user fee! Lots of mileage this year!

Default Condition inspection

No it's not required until it is flown on a aircraft for one year. It is always a good idea to do a inspection on it before you fly for first time, such as timing, plug cleaning, leak down check and such.

Actually, when you have your airworthiness inspection, the inspector or DAR will want to see the equivalent of a condition inspection signed off by you, before they will issue the certificate.
